Blog#6-Back across the desert

Day 8-California to Arizona Left San Diego and drove to Maricopa, Arizona today. I asked Titi what there was to see between SD and Tuscon, and she told me “it’s farmland”. Well, from SD to El Centro, the only thing they are harvesting is wind and solar power, and possibly rattlesnake venom for medical research. I think the apple cider vinegar is pickling her brain. Finally saw some fields, but that was short-lived. Back to Read more…

Day 5, Lake Havasu to San Diego Drove across the Mojave Desert to San Diego—with a little detour down Route 66 to Oatman to see the wild desert burros. They are the descendants of burros turned loose by miners after the Goldrush stopped panning out. He told me Clever American Woman may be a misnomer. Today I left my Bakersfield secure guest suite for Death Valley. I was able to retrieve my passport and kidney from the guard as I exited through the Read more…

Tonight, I am laying in bed in Bakersfield, California in the first of several AirBNBs I have reserved for my cross-country roadtrip.  This is a guest suite with a private Read more…

Blog #1–Launched

This is my journey– Day 1, Late February 2018 I drove yesterday from Central Oregon to the San Francisco East Bay. Bend to Walnut Creek. I hate driving in snow or ice and had a twelve hour window with neither, so I launched. Today the snow came to Central Oregon, as the weathergirl said it would. Today I am with my daughter, Amelia, and her S.O., Ryan, in a city without snow or ice, feeling Read more…
