Blog#26-St. Augustine

Slept in until 8:30 today—that’s a first. All the birdseed I put out is gone. Most of the campers are leaving today, and others coming in to replace them. Ron and Anna stopped on their way out to wish me safe travels and gave me a thumbs up when I told them I saw the armadillo. I used my toaster oven and made toast, for a gourmet breakfast. Had a shower that left me with Read more…

Blog#25-From Georgia back to Florida

Crooked River to Amelia Island I met a fellow solo woman camper this morning at Crooked River.  She is from the Atlanta area and has been camping by herself for years.  Her husband does not like to camp…Silly boob.   She gave me some insights on where to go to see birds and good camping spots. She strongly encouraged me to go the Cumberland National Seashore visitor center in St. Mary’s, even if I couldn’t Read more…

Blog#24-From South Carolina back to Georgia

Off schedule and heading to St. Marys, Georgia Woke up to perfect weather here in Edisto Beach.  And I had to leave, because I didn’t have a campsite there tonight. I gave up the rustic one and hastily decided I wanted to get away from this area due to the storm. But as they always do, storms pass.  And then I wished I could have stayed. I walked the campground before leaving and there were Read more…

Blog#23-South Carolina

Blog#22 From Georgia to South Carolina I left Savannah and drove north to Edisto Beach State Park, South Carolina (in the Charleston area). Stopped and replaced a wiper blade and then made a short detour into the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge. The wind was steadily blowing the entire drive—to the point that I had to keep both hands on the wheel. And that not only makes me tense, it also interferes with being able to Read more…

Blog#21-On to Georgia

From Tallahassee to The Okefenokee Swamp, Georgia Woke up in the night to the cracking of thunder—it was frightening. I have never heard thunder so close. I felt the hairs on my arms stand up. It stormed for a few hours and boy did the rain come down. Before I went to bed, I walked across the parking lot to look—with binocs— for birds in a wooded area on the other side of an arroyo. Read more…

Blog#20-Titi! Don’t Look!

On to Tallahassee When I got up this morning, I made coffee and then sat to drink it and read some more. The birdseed had brought another raccoon last night. He pretty much cherry-picked all the nuts out of the mix, waking me up as he raked through it looking for his favorite parts. The sunflower seeds were left and this morning I expected the jays to come eat. Instead, I had this guy. Not Read more…

Blog#19, Another Night In Big Lagoon

Second night at Big Lagoon I moved to a flatter campsite today. Saw some new birds this morning and several nesting pairs of Osprey. I had a late visit from a raccoon last night, but other than he and some deer, I haven’t seen many critters. Today I drove to the local library -Southwest Branch- and sat in their parking lot to pirate WiFi. Worked very well. I also went into Pensacola to a Home Depot Read more…

Blog#18 From Alabama to Florida

Midish March My motel in Spanish Fort was right next door to a Bass Pro Shop, so I had to go check it out. I am going through a bag of ice each day, and each day I have to take all the food out and drain the water out of this cheap P.O.S. cooler that has no drain. I found a Yeti ice chest at Bass Pro Shop that I can lift easily and Read more…

Blog #17, Over Louisiana, Through Mississippi and On to Alabama

I can’t remember what day it is. I am monkeying with the layout of this blog–learning as I go. It continues to thwart me. If anyone in Walnut Creek has figured this out, I would be happy to hear from that person.  (Ryan or Amelia).  I don’t know how to fix it so my friends reading this can post comments.  Sorry! As I was leaving my hotel in New Orleans, I freaked out when I Read more…
